  • Does it Clean well? These are dedicated machines, so if they don’t perform well, what good are they?
  • Is it portable? Great performance is not of much use to you if you must call your weightlifting cousins in order to move it around.
  • Is it difficult to use? Will you need a degree in engineering to start and operate it?  How much time will you spend on assembly, disassembly, cleaning, maintenance, etc?
  • Capacity. Will you need to refill clean water and empty the dirty water several times for cleaning a small carpet?

Does it Clean well?

Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner Vacuum,

This portable carpet cleaner has a small wash head. Inside there is a cleaning brush that cleans using a back-and-forth type movement, and it moves 1200 times per minute.  That speed combined with a very hard brush is sufficient for an excellent performance. Of course, depending on how dirty the furniture or carpets are, you may need to go over the stains a couple of times.

Because the brush is small, (Cleaning Path Width‎: ‎4.5 in) you cannot cover a large area at once, and that makes large carpets time consuming to clean.

Overall, users are quite satisfied with cleaning performance and report that it has extremely strong suction power and it leaves the upholstery and carpets almost dry.

The drawback is that the sprinkle nozzle is placed below the wash head, and if you are cleaning something vertical, the spray goes beneath the brush, and you have to chase the liquid that is running down.

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution

This is a quite different type of carpet cleaner. Not exactly portable, but you can carry it around. The larger size (Cleaning Path Width‎: ‎11 in) enables it to have a larger rotary cleaning brush.  The strong fibers, rotary movement of the brush and patented Heat-Wave Technology are enough to enable great performance, and the suction power is sufficient not to leave the carpets too damp. But it is not as strong as with Rug Doctor Portable.

Express Clean Mode will come in handy because it leaves the carpets almost dry, and the average drying time is about an hour.

For vertical upholstery and furniture, there is a hose with a small cleaning head, but because this is a secondary way of cleaning, it does not perform as well as Rug Doctor Portable, which has a dedicated wash head.

The winner is: A Tie. Both of these carpet cleaners perform well.

Is it portable?

Rug Doctor comparison

Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner Vacuum

The dimensions are 16.1 x 11 x 15.7 inches and the weight is 16.42 pounds. That makes it portable and not too heavy. It also fits in the category average.  It easily fits on a single stair step and it has a retractable handle and large wheels, so you don’t have to carry it around.

It will not take up too much space in the closet, because the hose can be neatly stored in the machine itself.

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution

The dimensions 15 x 12.5 x 43.5 inches and the weight is 17.5 pounds. Although bigger, it is not much heavier. Large wheels and the handle make it easy to move around. It is higher than the Rug Doctor Portable, but the footprint is not much greater, so it will not be too demanding to store.

The winner is the Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner Vacuum. It is smaller and weighs less.

Is it difficult to use?

BISSELLProHeat 2X Revolution review

Rug Doctor Portable Spot Cleaner Vacuum

The use itself is pretty easy. There is one on-off switch. Before starting the cleaning process, first, you must fill the dedicated tank with clean water, all the way up to the mark. Then add the detergent, there is a mark for that too. Close the lid and place it on the carpet cleaner.

The thing that most users complain about is that the clean water tank is triangular shaped. So, you can’t set it on a flat surface to fill. You have to hold it steady in your hand and do the same while you pour the detergent in.

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution

There are more cleaning options on this carpet cleaner. You can use the main, large wash head, or the smaller one. Also, you choose between regular and express wash. This doesn’t really make it more complicated, or difficult to use. The buttons are visible and easy to understand.

It is easier to clean the carpet, thanks to the larger wash head, so there is a clear advantage compared to the Rug Doctor Portable.  The downside is that it is more difficult to get around some areas, due to the size. Because the brushes have rotary movement, you can only pull the BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution, and not push.

The winner is A Tie. They are both very easy to use.
